W137 is DNPs premier wax and more durable than the popular W110. W137 offers high speed and high resolution printing for a wide variety of applications. Like every ribbon in the DNP family W137 leads the industry in Edge Definition™ for clean durable and dense bar codes. W137 is also designed with DNPs standard anti-static and back coat properties for print head protection.

Recommended Applications

General Labeling:
General labeling includes applications that require minimal durability and usually need to be cost effective. Wax ribbons are commonly promoted for these applications.

Shipping and Receiving Labeling
: A streamlined shipping and receiving process relies heavily on the tracking ability provided by bar codes. Thermal transfer bar codes have higher durability than most bar code printing technologies and can insure greater safety of the traveling data both in the beginning and at the end.

Logistic Labeling
: Bar coding for logistical purposes is helpful and time saving. Tracking product lines helps insure quality both inside a manufacturing facility and after point of sale.

Inventory Labeling
: Inventory bar codes - responsible for the efficiency revolution in the manufacturing and distribution process - typically contain useful information about quantities and descriptions of a companys inventory or stock quantities. Inventory labeling requires a durable bar code that has good abrasion resistance and longevity.

Tracking the manufacturing of a specific drug is critical for the supplier and the consumer. It is important for a pharmaceutical company to control and regulate the inventory of a specific drug as well as for the local pharmacy to control the consumer supply of that drug.

Barcode ribbons are used in thermal transfer printers to transfer the image to the thermal transfer label with heat applied from the print head. Below are Zebra barcode ribbons, along with high quality wax, wax/resin and resin ribbons for use in Zebra, Sato, Intermec, Datamax and many other printers.

Thermal ribbons come in three main types - wax, wax-resin or pure resin and are almost always black (other colors sometimes used are red and blue). These different types are made to print onto different label materials and are used instead of direct thermal printing when the life of the label needs to be long or the labels needs to survive harsh environments. Wax ribbons are for printing onto paper labels, where the life of the label can be years but must be kept dry and must not be abraded or subjected to certain chemicals or oil, which would dissolve the wax image. Wax-resin ribbons produce a finer image on very smooth paper or coated paper labels. The printed image is much more durable than wax, but can still only stand slight contact with water. Finally pure resin ribbons are formulated to print onto plastic labels such as polyester, polypropylene and vinyl. The ink is designed to slightly dissolve into or adhere to the plastic surface of the label and becomes extremely durable, depending on the plastic material and ribbon make used. Most printer manufacturers offer ribbon/label combinations which are known to work well together, which is particularly important as some combinations produce no image at all. Plastic labels with resin ribbons will survive outside in full sunlight, can stand immersion in water and may be resistant to chemicals and oils dependent on type. Often used in Automotive and Aircraft parts manufacture, any items stored outside and essential for the labelling of hazardous chemicals which must remain identifiable, for example, after being submerged in sea water for extended periods.
