Designed primarily for the professional photographic market the EPSON Enhanced Matte Paper and EPSON Enhanced Matte Poster Board both offer a flat matte surface and wide color gamut as well as a heavyweight bright white base that accentuates highlights to make it an optimal photographic platform. Furthermore when used with the compatible EPSON Archival ink the media addresses the extended lightfastness requirements of both photographers and fine artists. Epson will offer the Enhanced Matte Paper in 24- 36- and 44-inch rolls that are 100 feet long each for the large format printers. This is in addition to the letter-size 11.7 x 16.5 and 13 x 19 sizes that have been available for the desktop printers. The EPSON Enhanced Matte Poster Board offers a thickness of 1.2 mm and will be available in 24 x 30 and 30 x 40 sizes. It is unique to be able to offer this coating in such a wide variety of sizes and thicknesses said Paul Lukacs assistant product manager Professional Graphic Supplies. From traditional small-format photography to large thick poster board Enhanced Matte will be able to offer our customers the image quality they demand in a format that suits their needs. The name change is being implemented to minimize confusion about ink lightfastness when EPSON Photographic Dye ink rather than the EPSON Archival ink is used on these media. The media were designed for use with the archival inks and when those inks are used the output has an ink lightfastness rating of up to 100 years under glass¹. However when dye inks are used for which the media were not designed the ink lightfastness rating is about 10 years. Although originally designed for desktop printers that use our archival pigment ink Archival Matte Paper has become a favorite of customers using our dye inks as well Lukacs said. However having the word archival in the name prompted many dye ink users to think their prints would also enjoy the same lightfastness properties as pigment ink users get which of course is not true.
