They turn almost any parallel printer (including dot matrix, Inkjet, Laser, and Color printers) into a network printer through a simple connection to the printer's parallel port. The HP JetDirect EX Plus3 print server features Flash EEPROM on board that allows for firmware upgrades over the network with HP Download Manager software.
